March 2024 Monthly Recap

The end of February saw us launch the SubQuery Network mainnet with incredible success. Off the back of this, our focus was on expanding partnerships, enhancing integration support, securing additional exchange listings, participating in a significant conference, and rolling out a major update. As we continue to progress, let's take a moment to reflect on the notable events that have shaped our journey recently.

Introducing SubQuery SDK 4.0

SDK4.0 boosts indexing speed significantly, crucial for SubQuery's performance. With faster sync times, developers can iterate and launch features quicker. A speed comparison test with Ethereum’s Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP) project showed the 4.0 SDK was nearly 4x faster than the Graph.

SDK4.0 achieves faster speed by optimising our multi-threading and optimisation of the store to reduce costly database writes. The most significant change however is the implementation of our new SubQuery Data Node and the new filtering RPC API. This API allows for much faster and efficient indexing by allowing the SDK to fetch much more targeted data. Instead of fetching all blocks or even whole blocks from an RPC, the SDK will only fetch relevant transactions and logs.

These changes mean that the SDK has a lot less data to process as well as reducing the amount of data the SDK needs to fetch from the network. As a result, when testing one of the most popular Subgraphs against SubQuery (Ethereum POAP indexing), SubQuery indexes almost 3.9x faster than the equivalent Subgraph! Read more about this here.

SubQuery recently attended sub0, Polkadot’s premier developer conference in Bangkok. We connected with developers from across the Polkadot and Substrate ecosystems and engaged with existing customers and established new connections with projects benefiting from our services, enhancing our network and expanding our reach within the blockchain community.
