Our Mastery Series articles are designed to help you navigate and master the SubQuery Network. Today we focus once again on the lifeblood of the SubQuery Network, our Node Operators.
In the previous Mastery Series on How to Get Started as a Node Runner on the SubQuery Network, we highlighted that Node Operators can receive SQT from Network Inflation Rewards and Demand-Driven Query Rewards. In this article, we will unveil how Node Operators can maximise their rewards.
Tips to Receive Higher Rewards
In the SubQuery Network reward mechanism, the network rewards are generated based on the amount of boost allocated to a project and awarded proportionally between the number of Node Operators on that project.
To maximise rewards with fewer required resources, here are the key aspects Node Operators should consider:
Boost Numbers
As highlighted in the example from the previous Mastery Series on How to Get Started as a Node Runner on the SubQuery Network, higher levels of "boosting" lead to increased project rewards
Tip: Pick a project with a high amount of boost
Query Demand
When a Consumer posts an agreement offer for a project, they ultimately specify the payment for a set volume of requests. Higher payments make projects more appealing to Node Operators and indicate potential recurring revenue from the SubQuery project.
Tip: Pick a project with high query demand
Competition
Since rewards are distributed proportionally among Node Operators within a project, a Node Operator will receive a larger portion of rewards from a project with fewer Node Operators as opposed to one crowded with numerous Node Operators.
Tip: Pick a project with fewer Node Operators
Project Complexity
The complexity of a project published on SubQuery significantly impacts the hardware and resource demands. For instance, a project indexing multiple parameters necessitates substantial computational power. Therefore, the Node Operator will require increased resources and superior hardware to maintain optimal project performance.
Tip: Pick a project with low complexity
Other Tips and Tricks to Improve Performance
Always Monitor Allocation
For Node Operators, they should avoid having tokens allocated to outdated versions of the projects. An “Outdated Allocation Projects” pop-up will appear if this occurs. This means that the Node Operators need to adjust the allocation to the latest version of the projects.
Ensure All Delegated SQT are Allocated to Projects
Moreover, Node Operators should prevent any instances of "Unallocated Stake." To maximise rewards, ensure that all tokens are appropriately allocated. A notification will prompt if any "Unallocated Stake" is detected.
Enable Auto Reduce Over Allocation
Activating the "Auto Reduce Over Allocation" feature enables automatic detection of instances where a Node Operator's allocation surpasses the available stake. This functionality evenly reduces over-allocations across all projects, ensuring balanced resource distribution and preventing 0 or burned rewards.
Maintain Sufficient Balance in Controller Account
Node Operators should maintain an adequate ETH balance in the Controller Account to cover gas fees for automatic reward collection. This will ensure an Era Reward Collection status of “Frequent” on the “All Node Operators” dashboard meaning that your Delegators can also receive their share.
Conclusion
Now all our Node Operators have the information they need to optimise their setup on the SubQuery Network and ensure they’re receiving max APY (currently 27.5% for Node Operators).
